Is Health Reform Salvational?--Part 3

Vol 4, No.1

Health Reform is a Spiritual Battle.

In Part 1, we noted the increasing obesity crisis. In Part 2, recalling the Eden diet, we recognized diet is related to health, and that diet control is a battle. So, where is the battle to be fought? I submit that health reform is a spiritual battle with eternal impact.

As a people, with all our profession of health reform, we eat too much. Indulgence of appetite is the greatest cause of physical and mental debility, and lies at the foundation of a large share of the feebleness which is apparent everywhere.
(CTBH 154.1)

The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, who, if they had conquered on this point, would have had the moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail of perfecting Christian character. The continual transgression of man for over six thousand years has brought sickness, pain, and death as its fruit. And as we draw near the close of time, Satan’stemptations to indulge appetite will be more powerful, and more difficult to resist. (CTBH 154.2, emphasis mine)

Notice these final quotations from Christ's Object Lessons:
But man cannot transform himself by the exercise of his will. He possesses no power by which this change can be effected. The leaven—something wholly from without—must be put into the meal before the desired change can be wrought in it. So the grace of God must be received by the sinner before he can be fitted for the kingdom of glory. All the culture and education which the world can give will fail of making a degraded child of sin a child of heaven. The renewing energy must come from God. The change can be made only by the Holy Spirit. All who would be saved, high or low, rich or poor, must submit to the working of this power. (COL 96.2, emphasis mine)

And what's more,
Those who teach the principles of health reform should be intelligent in regard to disease and its causes, understanding that every action of the human agent should be in perfect harmony with the laws of life. The light God has given on health reform is for our salvation and the salvation of the world. Men and women should be informed in regard to the human habitation, fitted up by our Creator as His dwelling place, and over which He desires us to be faithful stewards. “For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.” 2 Corinthians 6:16. (7T 136.1 emphasis mine)

The answer to our original question, “Is health reform salvational?”  is a resounding “Yes”. Good health is a Spiritual Battle! Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

The Remedy is found in the Scriptures:
Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (emphasis supplied)

Do we want Jesus eating with us at our table? Let us prepare, with His wisdom, a table “fit for a King”.
Our Heavenly Father is waiting to give us victory over all sin, will we let Him?
